My Child Was Born having Seizures
I had a tough pregnancy, ecspecially the last 4 weeks prior to delivery. My original due date was 10/30/2008 and she was born premie 9/18. Just having a baby born premie I was already concerned and crying my eyes out. When I got a call from the doctor the next morning in my room, she introuduced herself all cheerful and I thought she was going to tell me that my daughter was fine and would go home sooner than expected, but she said that she walked in the NICU and my daughter was having a seizure. I balling my eyes out I passed the phone to my husband for the doctor to talk too. They put her on phenobarb immediately and started running tests. During testing they concluded that she had abnormal brain activity 75% time, not including her outward bound seizures. I had to step up to the plate, not giving myself time to heal, I told myself , I would have time later, my daughter was far too important. I spent everyday in the hospital along her side, watching her progress and then get worse. It was like the stock market she was really really good one day and then the next she had seizure after seizure. Keep in mind that the whole time that she wasn't seizing her brain still was. Not know what was wrong with her and they tried other meds on top of the phenobarb, like Tegratol. Finally, she show a turning point and we were about to take her home, until the day before, she seized so many times, that she wasn't even able to eat much that day. We decided that we would need to transfer her to a different hospital. Once admitted to the University hospital she was there a week, before they told us they ran out of options. They sent her home on Phenobarb,Tegratol, Keppra, and Topamax. Born 9/18 went home on 10/14, first hospital stay.
